Some Examples of Wheelchair Ramps Suitable for Homes

Curious about installing a wheelchair ramps for home in one’s home; installing a wheelchair ramps for home provides the homeowner and guests a safe and reliable way to access the home; anyone can make use of a ramp whether these individuals need assistance walking or if they are in a wheelchair or scooter.  Choosing the ideal ramp depends on the user’s level of movement, time frame needs, and lifestyle.  Not all homes are built with wheelchair ramps, but with certain upgrades, a home can be more wheelchair-accessible after all.  To promote accessibility and safety, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has established certain regulations for installing wheelchair ramps in public areas.  While ADA agreement does not usually apply directly to portable wheelchair ramps for homes, it is only natural to follow these standards when possible to maximize safety and ease of use.

The most popular form of a ramp is the Wood Ramp.  These ramps can be made from common materials found in any hardware store.  It is appropriate to have someone with expertise who will build the ramp for you.  Even the high-quality wood ramps will need the addition of some type of non-slip surface.  The best choice is the comparatively new non-slip treads.  These are made of aluminum and are simple to install and do not need replacement at all.  The ramp to be built will last much longer and need less maintenance if started with treated lumber.  Use only the fasteners that are treated for outdoor use.  The fasteners stated for use in fences and decks will work just fine.

Aluminum ramps are the second-most popular form of a ramp. They provide many benefits over other forms of ramps.  These naturally come in ordinary modules that fit together in conformations that work for most homes.  Some companies will interchangeably custom build a ramp system if one requires something unique.  Galvanized Steel Ramps, on the other hand, is a decking material that has an "open" pattern, which gives perfect traction and does not permit water, snow or dirt to accumulate.  Because this form of a ramp can be relocated to different areas, the system generally does not need a building permit for commercial or residential properties.  Concrete Deck Ramps is a tough and durable ramp system that gives the feel and walking surface of a poured concrete ramp but is less expensive and much simpler to install and a lot less permanent.  These deck ramps are built from a heavy-duty steel tube frame and a concrete panel surface.  Portable Ramps come in many different types.

The most common and inexpensive are the aluminum portables.  They present in many different lengths, surfaces, and folding patterns.  There are also portables that are made of several plastics and fiberglass, but these may be very expensive and have comparatively little capacities.  Threshold Ramps, as their name implies, are created for a very short rise, which is usually found at a door opening.  Some of these areas may not appear like much, but a rise of 1 ½ inch could as well be a brick wall when one knocks it with the little front wheels of a wheelchair.  These ramps are usually made out of either aluminum with a non-skid surface or plain solid rubber.
